The Mistake 99 percent of eBook Resellers Make

The Mistake 99 percent of eBook Resellers Make

We've all heard about how great it is to resell ebooks, but if you are like most resellers, you bought the rights and now can't move the darn book. The sales page is up, modified with your links and you're waiting... but nothing is happening! It could be that you are making the same mistake 99% of people trying to resell ebooks make.

If you are simply turning around and selling the same book as everyone else... you won't sell many copies. Everyone has already seen the book! By the time you grabbed the resell rights, chances are the book was up on at least a dozen of the top websites, blogged about by top internet marketers and praised up and down in a variety of emails. So why would anyone buy from you?

That isn't to say that you shouldn't buy resell rights. We all know they have great potential, but the trick is not to use the standard sales materials that come with the rights. Forget about the sales letter, the cover graphics, etc. You need to start all over again and create a fresh looking product.

Check your contract first to make sure you are allowed to make these changes. Most resell rights allow for cosmetic changes to the ebook, so just make sure you know exactly what you can and cannot do before you start messing around.

There are a lot of great programs out there, like eCover Gold and Instant Ecovers that will let you create 3D ebook covers. Grab some photos from a stock photo site and design a whole new cover. If you are able to, change the title. In fact, everything that you can change should be redone. That means if you have PLR rights to the book as well, you should change it up in the text, as well. Rewrite or hire a writer to rewrite the text, add your own affiliate links and brand all the pages with your website URL or business name.

Many internet marketers are not that great at writing. If this includes you, admit it and don't even attempt to write your own changes. Instead, head over to Elance or a similar site and hire yourself a real writer. It will cost a bit of money, but in the end, it will be worth it.

So, now you have a brand new ebook, it looks like nothing on the market, thanks to a visual overhaul and even people who have already bought the book can enjoy it because it isn't identical anymore. Now for the sales letter. Even if you skimped on the book and did the writing yourself, don't attempt to mess with the sales letter yourself. You definitely want a copywriter to do this for you.
